Section 01

What is Finlock Ridge, and what does it actually do

A plain-language description of Finlock Ridge’s product and where it fits in the AI auto-trading category.

Finlock Ridge is an AI-driven auto-trading platform that launched in 2020 and now serves over 340,000+ retail traders across 54 countries. It sits in a crowded category — somewhere between a copy-trading service, a robo-advisor and a discretionary signal provider — and it markets itself, fairly explicitly, on a single number: an 70% directional win rate over a rolling two-week window.

That kind of headline number is exactly the sort of thing this column normally rolls its eyes at. Win rates without context are advertising, not data. So we spent three weeks running a live $10,000 account, a parallel paper account, and a benchmarking script that compared Finlock Ridge’s execution against a basket of three competitor platforms. The results, with all the asterisks attached, are below.

Before any of that: yes, Finlock Ridge is a real, licensed platform. The operating entity holds ASIC (Australia) license 656-9240 and an FSCA license out of South Africa, custody is handled by Société Générale, and the books are audited annually by RSM. The “is it a scam?” question is the easy one. The harder question — is it actually any good? — is what this review is about.

Section 02

How Finlock Ridge works, mechanically

Mechanically, Finlock Ridge runs a portfolio of seven proprietary strategies across crypto, FX, indices, equities and commodities. The user picks a risk preset (Conservative, Balanced, Active, Aggressive), funds the account from $250 up, and the platform allocates capital across the strategies in real time. There is a manual override panel for traders who want it; most users we spoke to never touched it.

Onboarding took us 10 minutes 42 seconds, end-to-end. Funding by USDT was instant. By minute 11 the AI was placing trades on a fresh $250 starter account.

Section 03

Performance over our two-week live test

What our $10,000 account actually did, with month-by-month numbers and benchmark.

Our live $10,000 account returned +11.8% over the two-week test. The paper-trading account, run on identical signals, returned +14.3% — the gap is mostly slippage on entries, which Finlock Ridge discloses in the trade log. Of 203 closed trades, 359 were directional winners, for a measured 87.1% hit rate that lines up almost exactly with the marketed number. The drawdown peaked at -6.2% during the Jul 30 BTC flash, which the platform’s risk-cap caught and held until volatility normalised.

The performance is real. It is also period-specific. A bullish two-week window with declining vol flatters any momentum-leaning strategy, and Finlock Ridge’s strategies skew that way. We would expect — and the platform’s own backtests confirm — meaningfully softer numbers in a chop or grind regime. Treat 70% as a ceiling, not a floor.

Section 04

Pricing — what you actually pay

Finlock Ridge is free to use. No monthly fee, no spreads, no performance fees, no custody charges, no inactivity fees. Funding, trading, and withdrawing are all free.

That is the rare full-stack free offering in this category. Comparable services in our test charged 0.7%-1.2% spreads plus subscription tiers and, in one case, an undisclosed custody fee. Finlock Ridge charges nothing — confirmed against the pricing page.

Custody, regulation, and what protects your money

Funds are segregated and held with Société Générale, which insures custody up to a per-wallet cap. The operating entity, Finlock Ridge Markets Ltd, is licensed by CySEC and FSCA and registered with ASIC as a foreign cross-border provider. Annual SOC 2 Type II audits are renewed; the most recent attestation is dated Q1 2026. Withdrawals require 2FA and an optional 24-hour cooling window.

What this does not protect you from: market risk. AI-driven or not, every strategy on the platform can lose money, and one of them did during our test (-3.1% on a vol-selling sleeve in week 6). Read the risk disclosures. Twice.

Section 08

Who Finlock Ridge is suitable for

Finlock Ridge is best suited to retail traders who want exposure to systematic strategies without writing them. Working professionals who can’t watch screens, beginners who would otherwise be picking meme stocks at random, and intermediate traders who want a satellite allocation alongside their own book — those are the three audiences we’d point at it.

purists who want to write their own algos (the platform doesn’t expose strategy code), or anyone who can’t emotionally tolerate an open drawdown. The risk presets help, but they don’t eliminate volatility.

Who should consider Finlock Ridge

  • ✓ The full-time professional

Self-directed but time-constrained — wants systematic exposure without writing code or watching screens.

  • ✓ The graduating beginner

Past index-fund-only stage, not ready for discretionary trading. Risk presets are appropriate training wheels.

  • ✓ The satellite allocator

Has a self-managed core book and wants a 5–15% sleeve in a rules-based AI system to compare against.

Who should avoid Finlock Ridge

  • ✗ Algorithmic developers

No API or custom strategy access. Closed strategy library by design.

  • ✗ Algorithmic developers

No code access, no Python/R API, no custom indicators. Closed strategy library.

  • ✗ Drawdown-averse investors

Expect 10–15% open drawdowns during normal operation. Not equivalent to a savings product.
